Abstract

An improved river and tidal energy module designed to harvest energy from tidal and river sites. Arrays of modules are anchored to the shore at right angles to a prevailing tidal and river current. Each module is composed of an energy absorber and a mooring system. The energy absorber comprises a nacelle, a propeller attached at a hub, the propeller is connected to a driveshaft which turns a gearbox to drive an air compressor. The mooring system comprises a wing-shaped polymer shell attached to the nacelle, the shell creates negative lift to eliminate any upward motion of the energy module; amooring cable housed inside the wing-shaped polymer shell, and a high pressure hose housed inside the wing-shaped polymer shell to transfer compressed air to an air turbine generator for conversion into electricity by an onshore air turbine electric generator connected to the local power grid.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of energy and in particular to a device for generating mechanical, pneumatic and electrical energy from river and tidal water sources with maximum efficiency, minimum cost and without any greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Background technique [0002] Today, our energy economy seems to work like a perpetual motion machine. Billions of people enjoy unprecedented levels of living and nations float on rivers of wealth, in large part because, all over the world, the energy industry has built A vast network of , trains and ships - a vast, amazingly complex system that almost magically converts oil and gas hydrocarbons, natural gas and coal, into heat, energy and the mobility of modern civilization. For a hundred years, this man-made miracle has performed almost perfectly, until global oil consumption rose to equal or exceed global oil production and oil prices tripled. [0003] Research on new energy has become the...
