[0035] The method of treating cancer described herein comprises administering to a mammal, preferably a human, 17α-hydroxylase / C 17，20 - a lyase inhibitor and at least one therapeutic agent, such as an anticancer agent or a steroid, especially a glucocorticoid. The compositions described herein comprise 17α-hydroxylase / C 17，20 - a lyase inhibitor and at least one additional therapeutic agent, such as an anticancer agent or a steroid, especially a corticosteroid or a glucocorticoid. Other anticancer therapies, such as administration of another anticancer agent, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy, surgery, or other immunotherapy, can be used with the methods and compositions.

Abstract

Methods and compositions for treating cancer are described herein. More particularly, the methods for treating cancer comprise administering a 17a-hydroxylase / C17, 20-lyase inhibitor, such as abiraterone acetate (i.e., 3beta-acetoxy-17-(3-pyridyl) androsta-5, 16-diene), in combination with at least one additional therapeutic agent such as an anti-cancer agent or a steroid. Furthermore, disclosed are compositions comprising a 17a- hydroxylase / C17, 20-lyase inhibitor, and at least one additional therapeutic agent, such as an anti-cancer agent or a steroid.
