Problems solved by technology

These radio signals cause some interference to other services provided by the wireless cellular telecommunications (telecommunication) network and occupy bandwidth available for other services in those cells
[0007] A second possibility consists in that only base stations of the wireless cellular telecommunication network serving mobile terminals requesting multimedia content transmit multimedia content in their respective cells
Thus, it becomes very difficult to maintain the quality of the received multimedia content for each mobile terminal

Embodiment Construction

[0071] figure 1 is a diagram representing the structure of a wireless cellular telecommunication network according to the present invention.

[0072] In a wireless cellular telecommunication network, an access gateway aGW is connected to a plurality of base stations 10a to 10o through a telecommunication network 30 .

[0073] The base station 10 is also called a Node B or eNode B or an access point.

[0074] The telecommunications network 30 is a private wired network or a public network such as a public switched network, or an IP based network or a wireless network or a combination of the above mentioned networks.

[0075] According to the present invention, the telecommunications network 30 connects the base stations 10 together and allows the transfer of messages and information between the base stations 10 .

[0076] The telecommunications network 30 is capable of multicasting. A network node, such as an aGW or a base station 10, can request the telecommunication networ...

Abstract

The invention concerns a method and a device for setting up the transfer of a multimedia content in a cell of a wireless cellular telecommunication network constituted of plural cells, the cells being neighbour of at least one other cell, each cell being managed by a base station. A first base station which manages a first cell receives from a second base station which manages a second cell whichis neighbor of the first cell managed by the first base station, a message notifying that the second base station transfers the multimedia content in the second cell, the message comprising at least information identifying the multimedia content. The first base station obtains the multimedia content from the wireless cellular telecommunication network and transfers the multimedia content in the first cell.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods and devices for establishing multicast or broadcast transmissions, which may eg be used in a Multicast Broadcast Multimedia Service (MBMS) architecture. Background technique [0002] MBMS is a broadcast service that can be provided via cellular networks. MBMS uses multicast distribution in the core network for each terminal device instead of point-to-point links. MBMS features are divided into MBMS bearer service and MBMS user service. MBMS bearer services include multicast and broadcast modes. MBMS bearer services use IP multicast addresses for IP streams. [0003] Broadcast and multicast are methods for transmitting data from a single source to several destinations, ie point-to-multipoint transmission. [0004] In such a broadcast service, two possibilities appear. [0005] A first possibility consists in that each base station of the wireless cellular telecommunication network transmits multimedia conten...
