Problems solved by technology

[0006] While each of these several classes of methods and / or systems has provided physicians and patients alike with invaluable assistance in the complex task of disease management, each is limited in how much assistance it can provide
That is, conventional methods and systems do not respond to patient behavior or tailor the information provided to patients, information is required or is provided or requested much less frequently

Embodiment Construction

[0019] FIG. 1 illustrates an exemplary system 100 executing a computer program 112 for anomaly-based pattern analysis and anomaly-based reporting in accordance with the present invention. System 100 , as shown, includes a data source 102 , a communication link 104 and a processing station 106 preferably coupled to one or more data input devices 108 , visual display 110 and output devices 114 . Examples of data sources 102 include blood glucose meter systems and continuous metering systems for detecting blood glucose in blood or interstitial fluid, such as described in U.S. Patent Application 10 / 432,827, filed December 29, 2003, as All references are incorporated herein. Other representative examples include metering systems for detecting an analyte or indicator (eg, cholesterol or HbAlc) in any bodily fluid (eg, blood, urine, interstitial fluid, etc.). In general, data sources 102 may include any type of data input, including metrology or testing equipment designed to test ph...

Abstract

Systems and methods of individualized disease management are provided and use patient-specific, physician-defined rules to assist a patient in the management of their disease. The set of physician-defined rules for a patient can be maintained within the patient's blood glucose metering system and activated when a lifestyle event or blood glucose result is expected or recorded. Pattern analysis can be performed in real-time to provide physician-generated suggestions to a patient to positively influence their behavior toward managing their disease.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to systems and methods for managing health. More specifically, the present invention relates to systems and methods for providing personalized disease management to patients with chronic diseases. Background technique [0002] Diabetes is a chronic disease that requires continuous monitoring and control of health parameters such as blood sugar levels, medications, nutritional status, and weight and exercise data. For patients with diabetes and their physicians, this amount of information is difficult to track and effectively use to make operational changes that positively impact their disease management. [0003] Further complicating matters is that each patient exhibits a different personality to the type of treatment received. Namely, while some patients respond quickly to reinforcement, both positive and negative, and thus require little reinforcement, others may require more repetitions to induce the desired change. ...
