Problems solved by technology

[0018] The need to use two different solder materials during fabrication creates a non-negligible risk of solder being interchanged, which creates safety issues in use
In order to avoid such problems during manufacture, manufacturers of these known protective devices are usually forced to perform supervision and verification procedures during the manufacturing process, which leads to an increase in the price of the arrester, but does not completely eliminate the use of assembly solder instead of thermal circuit breakers. All Risks of Special Solders for Circuit Breakers
[0019] Moreover, the structure and manufacture of these known arresters makes it difficult or even impossible to repair the arrester when its spark gap has reached the limit of its life.
[0020] This can lead to device scrapping due to degradation of active components alone

Embodiment Construction

[0035] Figure 1 shows a device 1 for protecting electrical equipment against voltage surges, especially transient surges.

[0036] The term "electrical equipment" as used herein refers to any type of equipment, instrument, device, network, circuit, or telecommunication circuit that may be subject to a variable power supply in the form of voltage, especially voltage surges caused by lightning.

[0037] The device 1 according to the invention for providing surge protection is thus advantageously designed as a lightning arrester.

[0038] According to the invention, the device 1 comprises a lightning arrester unit or protection unit 2 .

[0039] In a conventional manner, the protection unit 2 comprises at least a first electrode 2A and a second electrode 2B, said electrodes being electrically connected via connection means 3 to a device to be protected (not shown).

[0040] Said protection unit 2 comprises at least one non-linear electrical component, such as a varistor, a Zener...

Abstract

The invention concerns a device (1) for protecting electrical equipment against overloads comprising: a protective unit (2) having at least one first and one second pole (2a, 2b), these poles (2a, 2b) being electrically connected to the equipment via connecting means (3); a functional coupling means (5) of the protective unit (2) for coupling to the connecting means (3), and; a thermal disconnecting means (4) functionally joined to said protective unit (2) for interrupting the electrical connection between the unit (2) and the equipment when the temperature of the unit reaches a predetermined critical value. The invention is characterized in that the coupling means (5) is designed for exerting a tightening of the protective unit (2) in a manner that ensures the electrical connection of the poles (2a, 2b) to the connecting means (3). The invention also relates to an electrical device for protecting against overloads.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the general technical field of devices for protecting electrical installations or equipment, such as appliances, circuits or distribution networks, from disturbances, possibly transient disturbances, in their power supply. [0002] More specifically, the invention relates to devices for protecting electrical equipment from voltage disturbances such as surges, especially surges due to lightning. [0003] The present invention relates to a device for protecting electrical equipment from voltage surges, the device comprising: [0004] · A protection unit having at least a first electrode and a second electrode, said electrodes being electrically connected to said electrical device via connecting means; [0005] a functional coupling device for coupling the protection unit and the connection device; and [0006] • A thermal cutout device functionally connected to the unit for interrupting the electrical connection between t...
