[0031] A wideband CDMA signal is transmitted from a remote transmitter, eg, located in a base station, and propagates over multiple propagation channels to a receiver, eg, located in a mobile station. Traditionally, the received signal is despread by a matched filter, where it is decomposed into multiple narrowband modulated signals, where these signals propagate through different channels with different propagation characteristics. Each narrowband modulated signal is processed by one of the fingers of the RAKE receiver before being fed back to the RAKE combiner for further processing.
