Embodiment Construction

[0031] The present invention generally relates to repositioning or folding treadmills that require less space for transport and storage in a user's home or apartment. The configuration of these folding treadmills reduces the size of the packaging container used to transport such treadmills to customers or retail locations. In this manner, the treadmill of the present invention can reduce the overall cost of purchasing the treadmill by reducing the shipping costs associated with delivery of the treadmill. Furthermore, the present invention provides a treadmill that can be easily stored in a method typically used for treadmill repositioning or in a novel method described herein. For example, the present invention provides a treadmill wherein the treadmill base is folded into multiple smaller sections and the armrests are folded to reduce the overall height dimension of the treadmill. In this way, the length of the base is no longer a limiting factor when transporting or storing...

Abstract

A treadmill (12) including a support structure and an tread base pivotally mounted to the support structure (18). The tread base (22) having a front portion and a rear portion rotatably coupled together by way of a folding mechanism that allows the rear portion to fold toward the front portion so that lower surfaces of the front and rear portions are substantially adjacent one to another. The folding mechanism can include a means for releasably locking the front portion to the rear portion to create a surface upon which a belt can move and upon which an individual can exercise. The treadmill can include a motion assembly that inclines and declines the tread base, while optionally causing the belt to rotate about two rollers mounted within the front portion and rear portion respectively.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates to athletic equipment, and more particularly to treadmills that can be folded to reduce the space required for storage and transport. Background technique [0002] Treadmill is a kind of very popular sports equipment, and it can keep the user in a relatively fixed position while running or walking. Existing treadmills consist of two main parts: a treadmill base and a handrail. The treadmill base includes a frame with rollers mounted at opposite ends thereof. A continuous belt extends around and between the two rollers to form a flat continuous loop. In one design, an electric motor is connected to the front rollers. When the motor turns, the rollers spin and transfer the rotational motion to the belt. In another design, no motor is provided and the continuous belt rotates when the user walks or runs on the belt. Friction between the user and the belt causes the belt to rotate in one continuous revolution around the rollers. ...
