Embodiment Construction

[0069] The present disclosure relies on obtaining a data set comprising a plurality of insulin dose records obtained over a time course. Each corresponding insulin dose record of the plurality of insulin dose records includes: (i) a corresponding insulin dose injection event comprising being injected into a subject using a corresponding insulin pen of the set of one or more insulin pens; the amount of insulin dose in the subject; (ii) the corresponding type of insulin dose injected into the subject from one of (a) a short-acting insulin dose and (b) a long-acting insulin dose, and (iii) the time Corresponding electronic injection event timestamps within the process, which are automatically generated by the corresponding insulin pen upon occurrence of the corresponding insulin dose injection event. figure 1 An example of an integrated system 502 for acquiring such datasets is illustrated, and Figure 5 Further details of such a system 502 are provided. The integrated system ...

Abstract

Systems and methods for adjusting a short acting dosage for a prospective meal for a subject with a standing regimen are provided. The standing regimen comprises short acting and long acting regimens.Past records are obtained from insulin pens applying the standing regimen. Each record specifies an amount and type of medicament injected, the type being one of short and long acting, and a timestamp. Responsive to the prospective meal at time (t0), total insulin on board (IOBtotal) is calculated as the sum of IOBbolus and IOBbasal, with IOBbolus being the total amount of short acting medicamentinjected, indicated by records having timestamps within a duration of the short acting medicament to t0, and IOBbasal being the total amount of long acting medicament injected, indicated by records having timestamps within the duration of the long acting medicament to t0. IOBtotal serves to calculate the short acting dosage for the meal.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for utilizing a long-term insulin regimen to adjust the dosage of short-acting insulin medicaments for anticipated meal events of a subject in order to minimize glycemic risk to the subject. Background technique [0002] Type 2 diabetes is characterized by a gradual interruption of normal physiological insulin secretion. In healthy individuals, basal insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells occurs continuously to maintain steady glucose levels over extended periods between meals. There is also prandial secretion in healthy individuals, where insulin is rapidly released in response to a meal in an initial first phase spike, followed by a sustained insulin secretion that returns to basal levels after 2-3 hours. [0003] Insulin is a hormone that lowers blood sugar by binding to insulin receptors by promoting the cellular uptake of glucose, amino acids and fatty acids into skeletal muscl...
