Abstract

The application provides an address allocation method and apparatus. According to the application, BGP acts as a bridge between a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) RELAY device and a DHCP SERVER. The DHCP RELAY device embeds VPN (virtual private network) information (specifically route-distinguisher (RD) of the VPN) into an Update message of a BGP, so that the DHCP SERVER is assisted in determining VPN information accessed to the user. Therefore, the interconnection interface of the DHCP RELAY device and the DHCP SERVER is not bound to the VPN connected by the user, so that a problemthat lots of VPN configuration needs to be deployed between the VPN REALY device and the DHCP SERVER during connection to lots of VPN users is solved.
