The method includes: receiving a payment request from a user, and generating a payment bill on an interface of a payment application; generating a message for reminding the user to perform eID authentication and calling a reader capable of reading eID information in an eID terminal carrier when the user confirms payment according to the payment bill; obtaining the eID information read by the eID reader from the eID terminal carrier; sending a payment account and the obtained eID information to an eID unified authentication server, and receiving authentication results returned by the eID unified authentication server; and determining whether subsequent payment operation is conducted according to the authentication results. According to the method and apparatus, physical isolation of the eID information and the Internet is realized by employing the eID terminal carrier, safety payment authentication of the payment account can be performed according to the eID information before payment operation, and the payment safety can be improved.
