The electric vehicle four-wheel drive system comprises: a front wheel drive subsystem for driving front wheels in motion to push the electric vehicle; a rear wheel drive subsystem for driving rear wheels in motion to push the electric vehicle; a front wheel automatic wheel-side clutch arranged between a front transmission shaft and the front wheels to engage or disengage the front wheel drive subsystem; a rear wheel automatic wheel-side clutch arranged between a rear transmission shaft and rear wheels to engage or disengage the rear wheel drive subsystem; a vehicle controller for, based on operation parameters of the electric vehicle, controlling engaging or disengaging action of the front wheel automatic wheel-side clutch and engaging action or disengaging action of the rear wheel automatic wheel-side clutch, and controlling output power of the front wheel drive subsystem and output power of the rear wheel drive subsystem.
