The system comprises a monitoring center, a control unit, a monitoring unit and a display unit, wherein the monitoring unit is used for monitoring information of vehicles entering a highway tunnel; and the display unit is used for prompting information for drivers. The temperatures of the vehicles which are about to enter the tunnel are detected, when the temperature data exceed the threshold value, warning information is transmitted to the monitoring center automatically, and meanwhile, license plate numbers and warning information of the vehicles are transmitted to the display unit for prompting the drivers. By the highway tunnel vehicle spontaneous combustion early warning system and method based on thermal imaging, the vehicles which can spontaneously combust potentially can be warned before entering the tunnel, and then can be treated ahead of time, hidden dangers causing spontaneous combustion of the vehicles are eliminated, the circumstances that the vehicles spontaneously combust after entering the tunnel are reduced, and life and property safety of people is guaranteed.
