Problems solved by technology

Also for transcutaneous blood gas measurements with sensors that have to be attached to the subject's skin, a lot of preparation, attachment and calibration work is still necessary, which is also found to be disturbing and undesirable
In particular, the temperature management and / or thermoregulation with respect to the blood flow in the subject to be monitored requires expensive equipment and considerable preparation and monitoring operations
Therefore, the application of blood gas measurement and monitoring is limited

[0097] exist figure 1 An example of an oxygen dissociation curve is shown in . figure 1 Shown is a temperature T of 37°C and 25mmol / L of bicarbonate (HCO 3 - ) concentration in curves (relationship between oxygen partial pressure pO2 and oxygen saturation sO2) with different pH values 7.3, 7.4 and 7.5. This can target the temperature T of the patient according to the following Bohr effect P [°C] and [mmol / L] concentration of HCO 3 (bicarbonate ion) and is corrected for:

Abstract

The present invention relates to a device (30) and a related method for determining a blood gas partial pressure in blood in a circulatory system of a subject (12) of interest. Also a system for ventilating a patient is disclosed. Temperature-related measurement values indicative of given blood temperature levels are detected. Oxygen saturation measurements of the blood of said subject (12) under consideration of said temperature-related measurement values are derived. A blood gas partial pressure of a monitored subject (12) from said derived oxygen saturation measurements is determined under consideration of present blood temperature levels of said subject (12). Preferably, pH- representative values attributable to present blood pH-values of the subject (12) are determined. More preferably, the pH-representative values are derived from an oxygen dissociation curve under consideration of changes in said derived oxygen saturation measurements of the blood attributable to detected temperature-related measurement values of the subject's blood.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to devices and methods for determining the partial pressure of carbon dioxide in blood in the circulatory system of a subject of interest, such as a patient. The invention also relates to a system for ventilating a patient utilizing a new method in determining the partial pressure of carbon dioxide in the blood of the circulatory system of a subject of interest. More generally, the invention relates to the detection of vital parameters, or, even more generally, vital sign information, with non-intrusive monitoring, which may even include so-called remote monitoring methods. More particularly, the present invention may relate to image processing systems and methods in the field of medical imaging that can be applied in the field of remote monitoring, such as remote optical plethysmographic monitoring, remote oxygen saturation detection and related applications. [0002] The invention also relates to a corresponding computer ...
