Abstract

A system for use with an ultrasound procedure comprising an ultrasound control and / or imaging system having a miniature motor, a rotatable reflector, and a fixed ultrasound transducer. The transducer can be placed between the motor and the reflector, thereby eliminating the need to place wires or other artifact-producing objects in the path of the ultrasound signal. In certain embodiments, such systems may be incorporated or retrofitted into commercially standard diagnostic and therapeutic catheters or other housings. The example may be used during multiple ultrasound procedures, for example, performing intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application No. 61 / 713,186, filed October 12, 2012, which is incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) allows the use of ultrasound technology to collect images from within a part of the body. In recent years, IVUS technology has provided physicians with the ability to obtain important diagnostic information that is not achievable with traditional x-ray techniques or other ultrasound techniques, thereby increasing the effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment. For example, IVUS can help determine platelet volume and the degree of narrowing within the lumen of the artery. This information is often difficult to obtain with angiographic imaging and external ultrasound imaging, especially in regions with multiple overlapping arterial segments. [0004] One type of ultrasound transducer includes a fixed ultrasound arra...
