Embodiment 1

[0152] Example 1: Solvent impregnation effect and factors affecting the transportation of various cellulosic biomass.

Embodiment 1A

[0153] Example 1A: 1.5 grams of mixed cork chips (14% moisture) with nominal dimensions of 8mmx4mmx3mm chips were put into 2.5cm of mixed organic / water solvent (25% of 2-propanol and 20% ethanol) layer. About 50% of the wood chips fell to the bottom of the vial, while the remaining 50% remained floating on the surface, although mixing broke the surface tension. Similar results were obtained when water was substituted for the mixed organic / aqueous solvent.

Embodiment 1B

[0154] Example 1B: Example 1A was repeated except that 3.5 grams of cork chips were added to 8 dram vials, and solvent was added subsequently to obtain a 2.6 cm layer of mixed organic / aqueous solvent in the bottles. Contents were mixed and allowed to stand. About 60% of the wood chips remained at the bottom of the bottle, and about 40% floated on the upper surface.

Abstract

A power control system includes a power reduction module operable to reduce power to a connected load, a switching module operable to selectively transfer power directly to the load or to the power reduction module, a harmonic reduction module connected to an output of the power reduction module for reducing signal harmonics from power transferred to the load, a controller linked to the switching module to provide control signals, a resistor coupled between the switching module and the power reduction module, and a resistor voltage monitor coupled between the switching module and the resistor, wherein the resistor voltage monitor measures a voltage across the resistor and sends voltage measurement data to the controller. The power control system is connected to various types of loads.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to the processing of cellulosic biomass, and more particularly to biomass conversion systems and methods in which a digestion unit can perform the dual role of pressurizing and digesting biomass to operate at elevated pressures of 30 bar or higher Feed to another digestion unit. Background technique [0002] Much attention has been devoted to developing alternative energy sources to fossil fuels. A promising alternative to fossil fuels is biomass, especially cellulosic biomass such as plant biomass. As used herein, the term "biomass" refers to living or recently living biological matter. Complex organic molecules within biomass can be extracted and broken down into simple organic molecules that can then be processed into industrial chemicals or fuel blends (ie, biofuels) through known chemical transformations. Despite the potential of biomass, especially plant biomass, in this regard, energy and cost-effective...
