Abstract

The invention provides an Internet protocol (IP) address administration method and a system, and relates to the network technology. The IP address administration method includes the following steps: bearing and sending user attribute information to a broadband access server by an authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) server through the private attribute VSA in a remote authentication dial in user service (Radius) message, wherein the user attribute information comprises a user attribute V4-only which only supports V4 business, a user attribute V6-only which only supports V6 business and a user attribute dual-stack which can support the V4 business and the V6 business simultaneously; and distributing different addresses respectively for users with different limits of authority by the BRAS according to the received user attribute information. According to the IP address administration method and the system, on one hand, the process for opening an account and the process for surfing the internet of users are modified synchronously, the delicacy management requirement of dual stack broadband access (BBA) business at the present stage is met, and on the other hand, the embodiment of the IP address administration method and the system is expanded based on an original Radius protocol frame, and forward direction compatibility is achieved.
