Embodiment Construction

[0015] The various embodiments described herein provide systems for approaching and processing target body tissues (eg, tendon tissue, ligament tissue, muscle tissue, bone tissue, etc.) under the guidance of an ultrasound imaging device. In certain embodiments, the system includes a delivery device that is pre-adjusted to the ultrasonic energy frequency range selected for debridement of pathological musculoskeletal tissue. According to certain embodiments, the delivery device (also referred to as a hand piece) includes echo material and / or etching to facilitate ultrasound imaging, and the delivery device is suitable for percutaneous insertion without producing significant skin incision. The part of the system including the conveying device and the associated pipe group is optionally adapted to be discarded after a single use.

[0016] In some applications, high-frequency ultrasound transducers and related ultrasound imaging equipment provide visual details of the pathological ch...

Abstract

Delivering ultrasonic energy to a target musculoskeletal tissue site includes connecting a delivery device to a vacuum source, a fluid source, and a power signal source. The delivery device has a housing portion maintaining an ultrasound transducer and a tip portion having a sleeve and a cannula. The cannula is coupled to the ultrasound transducer and received in the sleeve to define a covered portion and an exposed portion. Ultrasonic energy is generated by sending a power signal from the power signal source to the ultrasound transducer. The ultrasonic energy is transmitted from the ultrasound transducer to the cannula, such that the exposed portion of the cannula delivers ultrasonic energy at a frequency that is pre-selected to debride musculoskeletal tissue upon percutaneous insertion of the tip portion.

Description

Background technique [0001] The repeated movement or use of certain tissues can cause injury or pain. For example, tennis elbow, or lateral epicondyle pain is a clinical syndrome in which the patient feels pain on the outside of the elbow. This pain on the outside of the elbow will worsen over time, and despite proper management, many patients develop chronic symptoms and eventually become candidates for surgery. [0002] Many surgical procedures have been described for the treatment of chronic lateral epicondylal pain. The specific surgical technique usually requires surgical dissection to the pathological tissue and therefore the repair of the normal tissue that has been surgically injured. Some arthroscopic techniques will be slightly less invasive, but these arthroscopic elbow techniques will be associated with neurological complications and will require the use of high-cost surgical tools and related personnel. Various techniques through the skin have been described to dra...
