The upper substrate has a semitransparent structure and comprises a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface. The thermotropic display element also comprises a color material layer, wherein the color material layer is arranged inside the sealed shell and is converted through phase change between the upper substrate and the lower substrate under alternative heating action of the first heating element and the second heating element.
