Problems solved by technology

Distinguishing NO from different parts of the lower airway becomes more difficult at these higher expiratory flows
In addition, the gas exchange process in the lungs, which varies according to the severity and location of airway obstruction, will affect the time-resolved eNO map

Embodiment Construction

[0027] figure 1 The device 100 of the present invention is schematically shown. The device 100 includes an inlet or mouthpiece 11 to allow exhaled air from a user to pass through the device 100 . In this embodiment, the device 100 also allows the user to inhale and exhale through the same breathing passage 18 . The breathing passage 18 may include a NO scavenger 15 to ensure that the air inhaled by the user does not contain any NO and that all detected NO is produced from the user's airway. Breathing passage 18 may also include a flow sensor 24 . The function of the flow sensor 24 will be clarified later. When exhaled air enters mouthpiece 11 , part of the exhaled air is directed into analysis channel 19 via flow restrictor 22 and pump 25 . In the analysis channel 19 a side stream NO sensor 12 and a side stream CO 2 A sensor 13 is used to analyze the exhaled gas. Optionally, both sensors 12, 13 are integrated into a joint sensor. For example, the sensors 12, 13 may use ...

Abstract

A device (100) for measuring a concentration of NO in exhaled air is provided. The device (100) comprises a mouthpiece (11), an NO sensor (12), an airway obstruction measurement and an analysis module. The mouthpiece (11) receives the exhaled air during an exhalation. The NO sensor (12) measures the concentration of NO in the exhaled air. The airway obstruction measurement module determines an airway obstruction parameter. The analysis module (16) analyzes an inflammatory status of a respiratory system based on a combination of the measured concentration of NO and the determined airway obstruction parameter.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a device for measuring the concentration of NO in exhaled air, the device comprising a mouthpiece for receiving the exhaled air during exhalation, a NO sensor for measuring the concentration of NO in the exhaled air and based on the measured NO concentration An analysis module that analyzes the inflammatory state of the respiratory system. Background technique [0002] The following device is known from US patent application US2003 / 0134427. Said application describes a method for measuring NO and CO 2 installation. Exhaled NO concentration (eNO) was used to measure the severity of airway inflammation in asthmatic patients. Determination of NO and CO during exhalation using optical absorption spectroscopy 2 concentration. The device uses a single laser scan covering NO and CO 2 Absorbed wavelength range. CO 2 The peak concentration is known to be around 4%. The measured peak was assumed to correspond to this 4% and was ...
