Problems solved by technology

[0006] Several research groups in the wind turbine industry have attempted to characterize the angle of inflow and angle of attack of wind turbine blades, however, no system has been developed for pressure measurement using state-of-the-art technology that utilizes digital temperature compensation, eliminating the need for The Need for a Span Calibration System on a Turbine
Furthermore, no other system uses pressure measurements for closed-loop control of blade pitch angle, or uses blade flow parameters for optimal performance

Abstract

The present invention relates to a system for the monitoring of the wind incidence angle and the control of the wind turbine. A wind turbine includes a control system and at least one wind turbine blade having a pressure measurement system is disclosed. The pressure measurement system includes a pressure probe that provides a measurement of inflow angle to the control system. The control system adjusts the blade pitch angle of the at least one turbine blade in response to the inflow angle measurement to improve energy capture. The pressure probe is mounted by a probe support structure at a predetermined position from the leading edge of the at least one wind turbine blade.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to wind power generation, and more particularly to a method and system for improving energy generation and control of wind power plants by using blade inflow angles. related application [0002] This application is related to Attorney Docket No. 227-414, entitled "Wind Turbine Blade Flow Condition Measurement and Control," filed on the same date as this application, and to "Wind Turbine Blade Mounted Composite Sensor Support," filed on the same date as this application. Co-pending Patent Application, Attorney Docket No. 232-749, and both related applications are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. Background technique [0003] Wind turbines have received increasing attention in recent years as an environmentally safe and relatively inexpensive alternative energy source. As interest in this has grown, considerable efforts have been made to develop reliable and efficient wind turbines. [0004]...
