Abstract

The invention discloses a method for managing a position based on unifying an Iu-PS interface of a 3G network to an S1 interface of an LTE / SAE network. After receiving an attachment request message or a routing area updating request, an RNC replaces an RAI in which a UE currently exists with a TAI; and the RNC transmits the attachment request message or the routing area updating request comprising a TAI identifier to an MME, and the MME determines whether the network is a UTRAN network or an LTE network and carries out corresponding treatment. The invention can introduce the S1 interface of the SAE network through the UTRAN of the 3G network so as to further introduce some characteristics of the SAE network, therefore, the performance of the original 3G network is improved and the SAE network is caused to be compatible with the UTRAN of the 3G network so as to improve the evolution and integration of networks.
