Abstract

The invention relates to a method for assisting with the parking of a vehicle (2) in a parking space (1) lateral to the vehicle (2), wherein a faulty length L+ of the parking space (1) is detected by a sensor arrangement of the vehicle (2) as the vehicle (2) passes the parking space (1) on a curved movement path (6). Additionally, to determine the actual length L of the parking space (1), a movement path of the vehicle (2) deviating from straight travel of the vehicle (2) while passing the parking space (1) is detected, for example based on the steering angle of the vehicle (2), and from the path a corrective value for the detected length L+ of the parking space (1) is determined. The actual length L of the parking space (1) is thus determined with high accuracy, without requiring additional measured values, such as the orientation of the parked vehicles (4, 5) or the depth of the parking space (1).
