Abstract

The present invention provides a lamp having improved insect attraction. The lamp (10) has a light-transmissive envelope (12) being substantially free of cerium. The lamp (10) also has a phosphor layer (16) comprising at least one phosphor having an emission band in the UVA light region for attracting insects. The at least one phosphor of the phosphor layer (16) desirably has an emission spectrum in the UVA region that sufficiently matches an insect's eye sensitivity curve. For instance, the at least one phosphor can have an emission band in the UVA wavelength range of 320 to 400 nm, wherein said emission band has a maximum between 325 to 365 nm.
