The invention discloses a method for separating catalpol from fresh rehmannia root, which includes pulverizing and homogenizing fresh rehmannia root to obtain catalpol-containing sample solution; separating macroporous absorption resin; and performing chromatography with a silica gel column or re-crystallizing. The method maximally separates the catalpol from saccharide component in the rehmannia root to clear away obstacles for the preparation of high purity catalpol.
