Embodiment Construction

[0020] [19] Referring to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals refer to like parts, and particularly to FIG. feeder device. Typically, feeder device 20 introduces a chemical solution containing chlorine and / or other chemicals into water 24 flowing through circulation system 22 . In the circulation system 22 , water 24 enters the inlet 28 of the feeder device 20 and flows out the outlet 30 . The circulation system 22 generally includes a pool discharge line 32 that draws water from the pool 26 and a pool return line 34 that returns water to the pool. Fluid passing through these lines is directed by a pump 36 to the pool discharge line 32 on the low pressure (suction) side and to the pool return line 34 on the high pressure side. Downstream of the pump 36, there may be a system filter 38 for filtering debris and the like from the water exiting the pump. Because the fluid exits the outlet 30 of the feeder unit 20 and requires a vacuum to draw the chemical solution from...

Abstract

A feeder device (20) for introducing treatment chemicals into a recirculating water stream from a swimming pool (26). The feeder device (20) includes a housing (40) having a top (42) and bottom (44) portions. A funnel-like hopper (70) having sidewalls (72) and an open bottom (74) forms the inside of the top portion (42). A grid (76) at least partially closes the open bottom (74) of the hopper. The grid (76) includes a top surface (78) and a bottom surface (80). One or more chemicals such as chlorine are contained within the sidewalls (72) of the hopper (70) and supported by the top surface (78) of the grid (76). A dissolving cup (82) having a bottom surface (84) and sidewalls (86) is positioned within the bottom portion (44). The sidewalls (86) include an opening or notch (88) of a predetermined cross-sectional area formed therein. The bottom surface (84) includes a center nozzle (90) oriented vertically toward the bottom surface (80) of the grid (76) and an off-center nozzle (91) adapted to direct the fluid horizontally in the dissolving cup (82).

Description

technical field [0001] [01] The present invention relates generally to water treatment. In particular, the invention is directed to feeders for introducing treatment chemicals into circulating water streams from swimming pools or the like. Background technique [0002] [02] If left untreated, swimming pool water can provide a breeding ground for bacteria, algae, and other nasty and potentially health-damaging organisms. Thus, it is common practice to regularly and continuously treat pool water with chemicals to kill / control these organisms. [0003] [03] This treatment usually involves the introduction of chlorine into the pool water at levels effective to kill or control harmful organisms. The source of chlorine can be a liquid, or a solid that is dissolved in the pool water. Included among the solid sources of chlorine are calcium hypochlorite (cal hypo), dichloroisocyanuric acid (dichlor) and trichloroisocyanuric acid (trichlor). [0004] [04] A variety of feeders exi...
