[0059]The invention generally involves the use of a low power optical radiation source, or preferably an array of low power optical radiation sources, in a suitable head which is either held over a treatment area for a substantial period of time, i.e. one second to one hour, or is moved over the treatment area a number of times during each treatment. Depending on the area of the patient's body and the condition being treated, the cumulative dwell time over an area during a treatment can be within the ranges indicated. The apparatus used will sometimes be referred to as a hand held light emitting applicator (LEA) or light emitting skin applicator (LESA). The treatments may be repeated at frequent intervals, i.e. daily, or even several times a day, weekly, monthly or at other appropriate intervals.
