The invention discloses a watermark embedding and image self-recovery method based on a reference matrix and LSB (least significant bit) replacement, which belongs to the technical field of digital watermarking, and comprises the following steps of: acquiring an original image in real time, and dividing the image into subblocks with the size of 4 * 2 or 2 * 4 by adopting a block division method; generating a recovery bit, a flag bit and an authentication bit of the watermark; embedding the watermark into the original image based on the reference matrix and the LSB replacement; extracting the watermark based on the reference matrix and the LSB, and recalculating a recovery bit and an authentication bit; tampering detection is divided into two stages, the first stage is based on the extracted authentication bit and the recalculated authentication bit through comparison, and the second stage is based on the extracted recovery bit and the recalculated recovery bit through comparison; and recovering the tampered sub-block by using the recovery bit, and finally obtaining a recovered image.
