[0043] In 2012, we constructed a full-sib population of Populus americana consisting of 1077 offspring. The population was planted in Sihong Forest Farm, Jiangsu Province with a row spacing of 6×6 meters, and the population had reached sexual maturity. A genetic map covering the whole genome was constructed for this population, some individuals were randomly selected from the mapping population, and a genome-wide scan of the sex-determining genes of poplar was performed. Sex-determining genes are located at the end of chromosome 19, between the telomere and the N110 marker ( figure 1 ). Sex linkage analysis also found that the sex-determining genes of poplar were heterozygous for males, which indicated that the sex determination system of Populus nigra was XY.
