Abstract

Systems and methods for managing motions of an anatomical region of interest of a patient during image-guided radiotherapy are disclosed. An exemplary system may include an image acquisition device, aradiotherapy device, and a processor device. The processor device may be configured to determine a primary plane of motion of the anatomical region of interest and determine a plurality of 2D slicesparallel to the primary plane. The plurality of 2D slices may define a 3D volume substantially enclosing the anatomical region of interest. The processor device may also be configured to control the image acquisition device to acquire a plurality of 2D images based on the plurality of 2D slices and determine a motion of the anatomical region of interest based on at least a subset of the acquired plurality of 2D images. The processor device may be further configured to control radiation delivery based on the determined motion.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 292,726, filed February 8, 2016, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure generally relates to radiation therapy or radiotherapy. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to systems and methods for managing patient motion in image-guided radiation therapy. Background technique [0004] Radiation therapy is used to treat cancer and other diseases in the tissues of mammals, such as humans and animals. An exemplary radiation therapy is provided that uses a linear accelerator (LINAC), whereby the tumor is irradiated with energetic particles (eg, electrons, protons, ions, etc.). During radiation therapy, an image acquisition device may be used to acquire images of tumors and surrounding tissues to improve the accuracy of radiation field placement. For exam...
