Embodiment Construction

[0019] Before the present invention is described, it is to be understood that this invention is not limited to particular systems, methods or protocols described, as these may vary. It is also to be understood that the terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure.

[0020] Various embodiments are directed to valved ducts having leaflets that do not contact the walls of the duct in the open position ( figure 1 B). Such as figure 1 As shown in A and B, an exemplary valved conduit encompassed by such an embodiment may include a conduit 10 having an inner surface 11 and an outer surface 12 . A valve 100 comprised of one or more leaflets may be disposed within a conduit 10 and attached to an inner surface 11 of the conduit 10 . in the open position ( figure 1 B), the valve gap G separates the inner surface 11 of the conduit from the valve 100 .

Abstract

Valved conduits having leaflet structures that do not contact an inner surface of a conduit in which they are formed are described herein.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications : [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional No. 62 / 181,521, entitled "Valved Conduit and Method for Fabricating Same," filed June 18, 2015, which is hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] In an attempt to provide valved conduits to patients undergoing eg Norwood procedures, some institutions have created hybrid valved conduits by attaching an allograft valve to a synthetic conduit. While this approach may offer some benefits over valveless conduits, homograft valves present several other problems including calcification, immune rejection, and occasional perforation of the valve leaflets, among others. ePTFE valved tubing has been shown to be substantially resistant to these problems, leading to improved outcomes compared to isografts used in similar pediatric cardiac surgery where larger diameter valved tubing is used . Following this precedent, a properly functioning valved small d...
