The method comprises the following steps of collecting an air gesture image through photoelectric induction;processing and analyzing the gesture image to finish gesture identification; and outputting a corresponding operation indication to a terminal device. A photoelectric induction-based air gesture identification control apparatus comprises an image collection module, an image processing module, an MCU and an infrared light-emitting diode, wherein the output end of the image collection module is connected with the input end of the image processing module; and the output end of the image processing module is connected with the input end of the MCU.
