Abstract

The fault direction detection method comprises the steps that when relay protection is started, the fault voltage data and the fault current data of a fault line are synchronously acquired; a line mode voltage fault component is determined according to the fault voltage data, and a line mode current fault component is determined according to the fault current data; correlation calculation is performed on the line mode voltage fault component and the line mode current fault component so as to obtain the characteristic correlation coefficient; and the fault direction of the line fault can be determined according to the characteristic correlation coefficient. With application of the technical scheme, the fault direction can be sensitively judged when the fault occurs near the zero crossing point of the voltage, and the motion speed is within a few milliseconds without the influence of the limited frequency band of the capacitive voltage transformer commonly used in the high voltage power transmission line so that the reliability of fault direction detection can be enhanced.
