The invention discloses a battery pack monitoring device, which comprises a master control module and a plurality of monitoring modules, wherein each monitoring module monitors work information of a battery pack, sends out an alarm signal and uploads the alarm signal to the master control module; the master control module obtains the uploaded work information of the battery pack and gives an alarm; the master control module and the monitoring modules are in series communication through a communication line in sequence; an idle communication interface of the last monitoring module is shorted and the monitoring module directly uploads the alarm signal to the master control module; and a ground wire of the later stage of monitoring module is connected with a positive electrode of the battery pack monitored by the previous stage of monitoring module. The invention further discloses a monitoring method of the battery pack monitoring device. The monitoring method comprises the steps as follows: the master control module and the monitoring modules make a communication protocol; the master control module monitors the alarm signal uploaded by the monitoring modules and timely gives an alarm; the master control module issues a data uploading instruction to the monitoring modules; and the monitoring modules gradually upload the monitored data to the master control module from the later stage to the front stage.
