The invention provides a communication device and an FIB (Forwarding Information Base) table generation method thereof. The method comprises the steps of judging whether available ECMP (Equal-Cost Multipath) resources and FEC (Forwarding Equivalency Class) resources corresponding to the available ECMP exist or not when a target FIB table needs to be generated and the target FIB table points to a plurality of next hops; generating the target FIB table and synchronizing the target FIB table to a forwarding chip if the available ECMP resources and the FEC resources corresponding to the available ECMP exist; and selecting one or more target next hops from the plurality of next hops if the available ECMP resources and the FEC resources corresponding to the available ECMP do not exist, generating the FIB tables pointing to the target next hops and synchronizing the target FIB tables to the forwarding chip. Through application of the embodiment of the invention, the successful probability of generating the FIB tables can be improved.
