Abstract

The application discloses a method and apparatus for system message transmission. According to one embodiment, a base station determines that a terminal enters a second coverage mode from a first coverage mode and sends an RRC message to the terminal to indicate entrance of the terminal from the first coverage mode to the second coverage mode, wherein the RRC message includes a system message needed by entrance to the second coverage mode by the terminal. According to another embodiment, a base station determines that a terminal enters a second coverage mode from a first coverage mode and informs the terminal of obtaining a system message needed by entrance to the second coverage mode by the terminal. Therefore, when the terminal carries out coverage mode switching, the system message needed by entrance to the target coverage mode is obtained; and service continuity can be kept or time delay can be reduced.
