Abstract

A steering device (10) for a motor vehicle is described, which comprises a steering element (12) for steering the motor vehicle, and an actuating element (18) with which wheels (20) of the motor vehicle are adjusted depending on an actuation of the steering element (12). A steering support unit (22) is assigned to the steering element (12), in particular an electronic steering support unit for active resetting of the steering element (12), which comprises a motor (26) and an open-loop and closed-loop control unit (24) which actuates the motor (26) to generate a support torque. The open-loop and closed-loop control unit (24) receives data from a first sensor (28) which directly detects the position of the actuating element (18), and controls the motor (26) depending on the position of the actuating element (18). A method for controlling a steering device (10) is also described.
