Abstract

The invention relates to a liquid crystal medium for a mixture of polar compounds with positive or negative dielectric anisotropy, an application of the liquid crystal medium used for electro-optical purposes, and an electro-optical display containing the medium, which are particularly applied to TN-TFT, OCB, IPS, PS-IPS, FFS, PS-FFS and VA. The liquid crystal medium has wide nematic phase temperature, moderate viscosity, large dielectric anisotropy, high electrical resistivity and charge retention rate, low power consumption, fast response time and high stability to ultraviolet rays and heat. The liquid crystal medium is characterized by comprising one or more compounds of a general formula I, wherein each parameter is defined in the specification.
