The method comprises the following steps: collecting environment temperature and load current at a position where the overhead conductor to be tested is arranged; establishing a functional relation (1) among the load current of the conductor, the environment temperature and the conductor temperature; establishing a functional relation (4) among the load current of the conductor, the environment temperature and the conductor sag; calculating a conductor sag calculated value f1 of the tested conductor in the measured environment temperature and load current according to the functional relation (4), and measuring a sag measured value f2 of the tested conductor in field by using a range finder; comparing f1 with f2, and correcting the functional relation (4) until the difference value of the conductor sag calculated value and the measured value is in an allowed range; calculating the sag value of the overhead conductor in real time according to the real-time environment temperature value and the real-time conductor load current value.
