The rigid plates compose a sample box with an accommodating space, wherein a front rigid plate and a back rigid plate are respectively provided with a water sac accommodating part, a water inflow and outflow port, and a piston rod through hole. The piston rod passes through the inner membrane and outer membrane of the elastic water sac and the piston rod through holes. The sealing assemblies are disposed at the joints of the piston rod, the inner membrane and the outer membrane. The invention has the advantages that: the device is suitable for unsaturated soil; lateral deformation data and axial deformation data are mutually independent, thus facilitating observation of the deformation law of a sample from different directions; the lateral deformation data is not affected by the volume deformation measurement result, and mutual proofreading can be carried out according to a theoretical relationship, thus being convenient for discrimination of test data ambiguous points; and a lateral deformation development process of the sample during the test can be directly observed.
