[0034] FIG. 1 shows a schematic diagram of a turbine 100 according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention. The turbine comprises a chamber 101 with an inlet 102 and an outlet 103 for moving fluid. In FIG. 1 , cavity 101 is shown in cross-section. The turbine includes an impeller 104 disposed in the cavity to move fluid. The impeller is driven by means of an electric motor 112 equipped with a static frequency converter 110 connected to a power network 111 . The electric motor can be, for example, an induction motor, a permanent magnet synchronous motor, a brushless DC motor or a reluctance motor. It is also possible that the impeller is driven by a combustion engine. In the exemplary turbine shown in FIG. 1 , the impeller is directly connected to the shaft 113 of the electric motor.
