The timing method comprises the following steps: 1) measuring the precision of the time source card by each programmable logic device; 2) utilizing the central control CPU to select the optimal time source for timing; 3) arraying the remained time source modules according to the precision; and 4) detecting the output of each of the time source modules through suboptimal time source modules, and carrying out timing by switching the time source of the suboptimal time source modules to the central control CPU when the timing system is in fault. The backup scheme of high-speed programmable logic devices and multiple time sources is adopted in the invention; the time source with the best signal quality is automatically selected for timing the system; and the effective measuring mode, the intelligent preferential selection and the intelligent switching between the time sources are realized.
