Problems solved by technology

The problem is that this approach leads to very conservative routing and prevents any kind of dynamic wavelength provisioning and recovery (i.e. recovery is not possible on the fly)

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and a node for distributing physical (PI) parameters used when establishing an optical path for user traffic through routing and wavelength assignment of optical channels carried in optical links in a wavelength-switched optical network (WSON) entity. It is also an object of the present invention to specify an object format to be introduced in a link-state routing protocol, such as the OSPF-TE protocol, configured to carry information about physical impairments. When considering dynamic wavelength provisioning, this information set is required for the feasibility evaluation of lightpaths to be established across the optical switched network controlled by the WSON control plane.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method and a node entity in an optical network. More specifically, methods and node entities for distributing physical impairment parameters and for establishing optical paths for user traffic are provided. Background technique [0002] A wavelength-switched optical network (WSON) supports an end-to-end optical path, called a lightpath, between nodes requiring connectivity in the network. Intermediate nodes in this type of network support wavelength switching and may also support wavelength conversion. Compared to point-to-point optical communication links (which are always between the same pair of nodes) which provide high-capacity transmission, WSON supports nodes of networks with more complex topologies such as rings, interconnected rings, or mesh topologies The setup and teardown of the optical path between the pairs. The Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) function of the WSON performs the tasks of routing and ass...
