The high speed JPEG image processing system based on the FPGA comprises an image input device, a coding module, a central processing unit, a code stream storage device, and a code stream output device, which are connected by a system bus; the image input device obtains an original image sequence and transmits the original image sequence to the coding module; the coding module implements compression coding on the inputted image sequence and outputs a compression code stream to the code stream storage device; the central processing unit is provided with register information to control the working states of each device and each module, and simultaneously responds to a coding completion interruption signal outputted by the coding module and transfers the compression code stream in the code stream storage device into the code stream output device through DMA (direct memory access) mode.
