[0091] Preparation of Compositions for Administration
[0092] When fresh and dry, wash the plants in cold water and transfer them to previously boiled water. The plant material was added to the boiled water within 10 minutes only after the boiling had ceased and the water temperature had dropped to 98 degrees Celsius. The water extract thus obtained was analyzed by GC / MS and found to contain no thujone. The plants are then removed from the water, and the liquid is processed into a variety of dosage forms—infusions, syrups, pills, and capsules—as desired. These dosage forms may be preserved by the addition of sugar to syrups and by adding fungicides and conventional preservatives to pills and possibly capsules. Another option is to freeze dry the liquid and then convert it into one of the compositional forms. Whole, unground plant material is used for the preparation of the formulations. Some other moderately active plants can be added [eg: Louisa, melissa officinalis, pep...
Embodiment 1
[0095] Example 1 - Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
[0096] The composition was administered to a group of 30 subjects who had been diagnosed with symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome for several weeks to 20 years. 24 subjects were administered in the form of tea and 6 subjects were administered the composition in the form of capsules. Each subject received doses based on 0.2 grams to 1.2 grams of dry plant material, administered once daily for 10 days. The group consisted of randomly selected adult males and adult females. Most subjects were noted to be in substantial remission (measured by patients answering questions about how they felt) after 1-15 days. Eighteen subjects were fully cured. Eight subjects reported some relief. 4 subjects experienced no relief.
[0097] Symptoms disappeared for 1 year and were considered to be completely cured.
Embodiment 2
[0098] Example 2 - Crohn's disease
[0099] A daily dose of the composition was administered to a group of 6 subjects who had been diagnosed with symptoms of Crohn's disease for 6 months to 2 years. The composition is administered in the form of a tea at a dose based on 0.2 g to 1.2 g of dry plant material once daily for 30 days. The group consisted of randomly selected adult males and adult females. After 1 day, most subjects were noted to be substantially in remission (measured by patients answering questions about how they were feeling). Two subjects were completely cured and felt remission over the next 6 months.
[0100] The disappearance of symptoms is considered complete cure.
