Benefits of technology

The patent text describes a solution for a base station to trigger dynamic switching of transmission modes for a user equipment (UE) without requiring a new connection. The base station can configure the UE with different combinations of transmission modes using specific signaling. However, this may result in considerable overhead and burden on the UE for providing corresponding channel state information (CSI) feedback. The patent further proposes a solution for dynamic and corresponding CSI feedback that improves efficient use of overhead.

Problems solved by technology

Problems may arise for a UE using a particular transmission mode if network conditions change while the UE is connected to the network.
However, CSI feedback may become burdensome and require an undesirable amount of overhead for combinations of transmission modes.

Abstract

A burden may be placed on a UE to measure CSI for combination(s) of transmission modes, and reporting may create an overhead burden. Aspects presented herein enable a UE to measure and report CSI for combinations of transmission modes in a manner that reduces such burdens. A UE receives signaling from a base station for a combination of transmission modes, e.g., comprising at least a first transmission mode and a second transmission mode. Then, the UE measures at least one reference signal for CSI feedback based on the combination of transmission modes. Various examples of measurements of CSI feedback are presented.
