Embodiment Construction

[0032] The present invention provides a method of improving recovery from anesthesia in a patient by administering an NK-1 antagonist before, during or after administration of general anesthesia. In particular, the present invention relates to the administration of a compound of formula I or Ia before, during or after administration of general anesthesia to improve recovery from anesthesia in a patient. If the compound of formula I or Ia is administered after general anesthesia, it is preferably administered within about 30 minutes of the recovery period.

[0033] Compounds of formula I and Ia can be prepared as described in US Patent No. 6,222,038 or US Patent No. 6,255,038. Salts of compounds of formula I or Ia, in particular citrate salts, can be prepared as described in the aforementioned patents. Alternatively, compounds of formula I may also be prepared as described in co-pending US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 60 / 541,323, assigned to and owned by Pfizer, I...

Abstract

The present invention is directed to the administration of a compound of the Formula (I)and (Ia), wherein R<2> is selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, sec-butyl and tert-butyl, to an animal to improve anesthesia recovery.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for improving recovery from anesthesia, which comprises administering an NK-1 receptor antagonist pharmaceutical composition in a therapeutically effective amount to animals. [0002] In particular, the present invention relates to administering to animals a compound of formula I to improve recovery from anesthesia, wherein R 2 selected from methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, sec-butyl and tert-butyl. [0003] [0004] In particular, the present invention relates to administering compounds of formula Ia to animals to improve recovery from anesthesia. [0005] Background technique [0006] Compounds of Formula I and Ia, NK-1 receptor antagonists, are effective antiemetics in mammals. Compounds of formula I and Ia are the subject of US Patent Nos. 6,222,038 and 6,255,320. The preparation of the compounds is described therein. US Patent No. 5,393,762 also describes pharmaceutical compositions of NK-1 receptor ant...
