Embodiment Construction

[0140] Thirty-three lactating Holstein cows were randomly divided into 5 treatment groups with different milk production and milk production days. Milk samples, blood samples, and temperature data were collected at morning milking on Day -1. One normal udder in each cow was selected based on clinical scores performed at morning milking on Day -1 and California Mastitis Test (CMT) results. After milking on the 41st evening, selected udders were infused with approximately 30 cfu of E. coli (MacDonald 487). Pre-treatment milk samples, blood samples and temperature data were collected at morning milking on Day 0. Cows were handled following morning milking on Day 0 according to the study protocol. After treatment, milk samples, blood samples and temperature data were collected at 11, 24, 35, 48, 72, 144, 168, 192 and 216 hours. Clinical scores and milk production of macerated udders were assessed at each milking. Analysis of cultures (E. coli) in milk samples for determination...

Abstract

The present invention provides methods for treating animals having acute inflammatory conditions, including mastitis, by administering at least one p38 MAP kinase inhibitor. The present invention also provides methods for enhancing milk production and reducing milk discard in animals afflicted with acute inflammatory conditions by administering at least one, p38 MAP kinase inhibitor.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to the application of p38MAP kinase inhibitor in the treatment of animal acute inflammation and the diseases caused by it. In particular, the present invention provides methods of treating acute inflammation, including mastitis, in animals by administering at least one p38 MAP kinase inhibitor. The present invention also provides methods of increasing milk production and reducing milk waste in animals with acute inflammation by administering at least one p38 MAP kinase inhibitor. Background technique [0002] The acute inflammatory response in mammals often damages tissue leading to loss of organ or tissue function with attendant negative effects on overall health, yield and performance. [0003] Mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases are key enzymes involved in signal transduction and amplification of cellular responses to stimuli. The p38 family of MAP kinases is a family of MAP kinases rela...
