Wherein, the content providing system comprises a content server, a content client terminal, a content authentication gateway and an authentication device. The content authentication gateway is connected to the content client terminal, the content server and the authentication device to attain the user authentication information from the request information that the content client terminal sends to the content server, to send it to the authentication device; when the authentication result returned by the authentication device is successful, the invention builds the connection between the content server and the content client terminal; the authentication device is used to compare the received user authentication information and the stored user authentication information of legal user, if they are same, the returned authentication result is success, or else returning the authentication result is lost. When the invention is changing from the free operation mode into the charge operation mode, the service provider can avoid secondary development on present content providing system.
