The present invention discloses a catalyst and a process employing such catalyst for the dehydrogenation of paraffinic hydrocarbons, wherein the catalyst comprises a platinum group metal component, a zinc component and a magnesium component on a support comprising ZSM or borosilicate.

Background of the invention [0001] The present invention relates to a method and catalyst for the dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons. More specifically, the present invention relates to a catalyst and an alkane dehydrogenation method using the catalyst. The catalyst includes a platinum group metal component, a zinc component and magnesium on a support component containing ZSM or borosilicate. Components, the method described is used to produce chemical raw materials. [0002] Propylene, also called propene, is a commercially valuable raw material used in the industrial production of polypropylene, acrylonitrile and propylene oxide. Now more than 95% of propylene is a by-product of olefin cracking and recovery. Propane dehydrogenation (hereinafter referred to as PDH) is another method of producing propylene.
