Embodiment 1
[0061] Example 1 - Seeds treated with an insecticidal seed coating
[0062] a. Five pounds of corn seed pretreated with Captan 400 fungicide and Pro-lzed Red colorant were coated in a Vector LDCS coater. The seeds were heated on a turntable at about 20 r.p.m. for about 5 minutes with an air flow of 31-32 c.f.m. and an air pressure of 20 p.s.i. will contain 183 grams of 50% chlorpyrifos (Lorsban TM active ingredient in 50-SL) and 50% premixed inert filler, 47 g Airflex TM A solution of 500 (vinyl acetate-ethylene), and 992 grams of an insecticide in 762 grams of water was sprayed onto the seeds until all the solution was used up. The inlet air temperature is about 50°C and can be adjusted periodically to keep the seed temperature at or below about 35°C or to affect germination.
[0063] b. Treat the seeds as described above, however will contain 51.87 grams of 27.9% tefluthrin (Force TM Active ingredient in 30CS), 21.0g Vinamul TM 18132 (vinyl acetate-ethylene), 30 g Celit...
Embodiment 2
[0071] Example 2 - Protective coating of coated seeds:
[0072] A protective coating was added to each seed instance described in Example 1. Use the same machine and settings for the protective coat. The inlet temperature of the machine was set at 50°C, which was adjusted periodically to maintain the seed temperature at approximately equal to or below 35°C. A solution consisting of 438 grams of water, 2.2 grams of Methocel K100M, 0.36 grams of PEG8000, 5.8 grams of Pro-lzed red colorant, 0.73 grams of GP Hytech calcium stearate 5899 and 22.2 grams of Airflex was sprayed onto the seeds over a period of 15 minutes.
Embodiment 3
[0073] Embodiment 3-seed germination and emergence result:
[0074] Maize hybrid seeds were tested for germination according to the test protocol of the Association of Official Seed Analysts (AOSA). Use paper towels and soil for a separate germination test. In addition, the stems and roots of the seedlings are separated 7-10 days after germination. Stem and root dry weights were recorded to represent seedling growth. For emergence trials, maize hybrid seeds were planted in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois, and Ohio in a split-plot design with two rows per treatment and four replicates . Emergence was counted every other day, starting with the first day of plant emergence in each treatment and continuing until 21 days post-emergence. The emergence rate of all sites in each treatment was determined and listed in Table 1. This table demonstrates that seed coating has no adverse effect on emergence. Each treatment is as follows:
[0075] Treatment 1(a): the se...
